Join Channel Islands Restoration for a rewarding day of restoring and preserving one of Santa Barbara's most beautiful natural spaces. This is your chance to directly impact your local environment while connecting with fellow nature enthusiasts and environmental volunteers. This is a mixed event; you will have the option of helping with trail work, seed collecting, and invasive plant removal or helping with installing and monitoring active bluebird boxes at the preserve.
Join our Great Backyard Bird Count at San Marcos Foothills West Mesa.
CIR is encouraging you to go out and look for birds! This free, fun event involves discovering what bird species reside in our local area and educating ourselves about their distinct characteristics, from the microhabitats they populate to their foraging and nesting habits.
No experience is necessary for our count! You don't need to be a birder to participate, although binoculars or a camera with a zoom helps, and each walk will include an experienced birder and a recording specialist, who will compile your count. We'll also provide you with a helpful checklist for the day as you observe local species, such as Anna's hummingbird, the Acorn woodpecker, the Western scrub-jay, the Blue grosbeak, and many more!

Spend the morning with our Restoration Foreman & Nursery Manager, Wyatt McLean, in the lush beauty of Summerland Greenwell Preserve, where we'll be nurturing the next generation of native plants. Help support our nursery’s growth and contribute to the active restoration of local ecosystems on our current projects. Our greenhouse nursery is opening its doors to volunteers of all ages and skill levels, offering a unique opportunity to learn and grow with us.
