The Native Animals Of The Channel Islands & Mainland Central Coast

The animals of The Channel Islands are unlike any other found on earth. Thanks to the isolation of the Channel Islands off the coast of California, each island offers unique subspecies that are typically not found on the mainland. The Channel Island Fox and Island Scrub Jay are some of the most well known animals that have caught the public’s attention. In total, the islands contain around twenty endemic animals including aquatic life, terrestrial creatures, and birds.

Additionally, the mainland hosts a variety of animals who play a vital role in the work that Channel Islands Restoration does and the habits that we work to restore and conserve. Some of those, like the Western Pond Turtle, Arroyo Toad, Reg Legged Frog, and Steel Headed Trout, have been included here as well for your benefit.
